Elena Ailes (b. 1981) is interested in that which makes her a better person and a worse person, especially in theory. In reality, she is an artist and writer living and working in Chicago. She received her BFA in Photography from the University of New Mexico, and both her MFA in Sculpture and MA in Visual and Critical Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has been the recipient of numerous grants and scholarships, including the Edward L Ryerson Fellowship and the Charis Ann McKelvy Memorial Scholarship. She has presented lectures and text-based work at Darling Foundry (Montreal), Sector 2337 (Chicago), and Optica Centre for the Arts (Montreal), and exhibited widely, including solo shows at 4th Ward Project Space (Chicago, IL) and the Center for Contemporary Arts (Santa Fe, NM). She is the co-founder of jeux d’été, a mobile, artist-run curatorial experiment based in Chicago. She currently teaches at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
